The Fuller Craft Museum

Jen and I took a wee art excursion yesterday to the Fuller Craft Museum. Man oh man, the joint's got it ALL goin’ on. It’s on 22 (!!!) acres of gorgeous woodland (with ponds!) on the South Shore of Boston in Brockton, Massachusetts. Not only are they situated in a transcendentally beautiful, idyllic spot and have a mind blowing art collection, they also have a way intriguing performance series in the artKitchen CafĂ©.

They have the Mad Hatter’s Table.
On the first Thursday of every month, Brockton Arts hosts the “Mad Hatters Table” at the Fuller Craft Museum’s Art Kitchen.  This is both a dinner party and a forum for discussion on various topics that affect us locally, globally, and/or personally.
There’s also The Great Room and outdoor patios.

Fuller Craft’s largest room, The Great Room features changing exhibitions of contemporary craft in a beautiful theater environment.
And then there’s the rest of the molto awesome art.

Current exhibitions:
Reversible Reactions: Art Meets Science @ The MIT Glass Lab
‘“Reversible Reactions” is a show about the nexus of art and science at the heart of the Glass Lab’s personality. Conceived by the lab’s director Peter Houk and curated by Fuller Craft Museum’s Beth Mclaughlin, the exhibit focuses on work and projects that are crossdisciplinary in nature–the results of collisions of glass and other fields of knowledge at the Institute.’

This one was still being set up but the curator folk let Jen and I in anyway. Never underestimate the persuasive powers of a silently gazing, mega wistful looking, cute, middle aged deaf chick.

It seemed that a fair amount of the glass sculptures were also musical instruments. Too cool. I bet they were tons of fun to make and then play!

Across the Grain: Turned and Carved Wood
April 10, 2013 - September 22, 2013
Fuller Craft Museum is excited to present an exhibition of wood art that reveals the scope of its Permanent Collection (with 49 turned, carved, assembled, and repurposed pieces) as well as another 66 pieces selected from friends of Fuller Craft Museum (15 lenders in eight states: Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Illinois, Maryland, North Carolina, Kentucky).
This museum is WELL worth the trip. From The Neck it’s just a 20 minute drive. I can’t believe that I’ve lived in the Boston area for SO long (33 years) and have only recently heard of the joint. I could spend a whole day there just goggling at the amazing work.

And a nice cuppa Chianti (well now, that's redundant isn't it?) wouldn't go amiss here. Duh.
