This Lush Life

August has slipped away already. So soon! The morning air’s a bit chilly – crisp like early autumn. The equinox is just three weeks away now – September 22. We’ll have a sprinkling of blindingly hot (for New England) days yet but those’ll be few and, in another month, nothing but memories.

It’s time to wear socks again and break out my sweaters. I just love sweater weather and all the changing colors of the season and yet…

Looking around at all the gorgeous greenery, I’m feeling a touch melancholy. In a few months it'll be snowy and cold as fuck, the days will get dark way early and the trees will be bare. Winter – the bleak season. I need to soak up all this bodaciously lush chlorophyll so that I can carry it, the sparkling, juicy energy, with me through the frozen, naked winter.

Perhaps today is a good day for a walk in the nearby Blue Hills. Yup, good plan.

Jen and Oni are tootling around Bar Harbor – hiking, biking and just generally enjoying the hell out of a different beach. That’s what we Valhallan’s do on holiday – we visit other beaches, we soak in strange bodies of water. We’re all about water and trees – rocks too.
