WORDS!

Welcome to another hot ep of Fun with Words. Let's jump right in, shall we?

Infomania
noun
1) an obsessive need to constantly check emails, social media websites, online news, etc.: The fear of being out of the loop, not in the know, fuels infomania, especially among teens.

2) the effects of this obsession, especially a decline in the ability to concentrate: She attributes her increasingly poor “life management skills” to infomania.
Hello, my name is Donna and I suffer (I’M SUFFERING, I tells ya!) from Infomania.

oops
Hypocorism
noun
1) a pet name.
2) the practice of using a pet name.
The Amazing Bob hated when I referred to him by his hypochorism, Hunny Pie, at work. *sigh*

Suborn
verb
1) to induce (a person, especially a witness) to give false testimony.
2) to obtain (false testimony) from a witness.
While testifying, Brennan said he knew of intelligence that revealed contacts between members of Trump’s campaign and Russian officials.
“I was concerned about [that intelligence] because of known Russian efforts to suborn such individuals,” Brennan said. (source)
Sith
adverb
1)  since
What? This isn't a Star Wars-ism?! I tried to find an example of sith used in a sentence and found only this:
  1. Abrams told "Empire" in August 2015, "Kylo Ren is not a Sith.
  2. Designed as much for elegance in combat as for ceremony, the lightsaber, also referred to as the "laser sword" by those who were unfamiliar with it, was a distinctive weapon, the very image of which was inextricably bound with the mythos of the Jedi Order and their polar opposites, the Sith
  3. She thwarts the sinister Sith Lord Darth Vader and helps bring about the destruction of the Empire's cataclysmic weapon, the Death Star.
Yeah so…don’t be tellin’ me that sith is anything but an ancient order of Force-wielders devoted to the dark side, who practice hate, deception, and greed...and shit.

Pocourante
noun
1) a careless or indifferent person
NO. This one clearly means, one who currently listens to Poco.

Machiavellian
adjective
1) cunning, scheming, and unscrupulous, especially in politics or in advancing one's career.
There’s a great post over at Wired, No One Wins the Machiavellian Game of Trump vs. the Press. Well worth the read. Adam Rogers asks great questions such as Who! Extorted! It! Better?!

Frugivorous
adjective
    1. (of an animal) feeding on fruit.
Dictionary.com plainly and incompletely states “fruiteating." Sorry, no, I’m not buying it. OBVIOUSLY, frugivorous is derived from frug which, duh, was a dance style popular in the ‘60s. The late great Bob Fosse elevated and imortalized it in the brill flick Sweet Charity.

Yeah, frugivorous has got fuck all to do with apples and grapes. Hmmph.

oops
Forgetive
adjective
1) inventive, creative
Oh c’mon. CLEARLY this is  an adjective which perfectly describes yurs truly! As in:
We would’ve hooked up last Saturday but, you know my forgetive bean, I can never remember where and when we’re supposed to meet.
my inscape
Vagility
noun
1) Biology. the ability of an organism to move about freely and migrate.
Rilly? I think this is actually related to a woman’s ability to be the Queen of her own domain. Ya know, free to choose who she does and does NOT wish to have sexytime with AND whether or not it makes sense/is smart for her to continue a pregnancy OR NOT.
Thanks to, amongst other things, married women’s property acts, the 19th amendment to the constitution and Roe v. Wade, I haz vagility.
 Inscape
noun
1) the unique essence or inner nature of a person, place, thing, or event, especially depicted in poetry or a work of art.

  1. If "Sith" ever had a pre-Star Wars meaning, there's no restoring it now. If such usages were as rare as you say, that's a good thing, since they'd look like weird anachronisms to modern people. Similarly, "forgetive" certainly can't be used to mean "creative" any more, for obvious reasons. But I do think some of these words are pretty clear.

Hypocorism: The practice of using needles to inject stuff into apple cores

Suborn: The ornery feeling that develops among submarine crews

Frugivorous: Describes a person with a Japanese accent who infects you with influenza

Inscape: Opposite of "escape"; what the country did when it elected Trump

    1. Hah!

Suborn might also be “daughter or son of Su.” Right?

    2. Or SUborn (born in the Soviet Union) -- I should have thought of that, from the Oleg Gazmanov song.....Я рождён в Советском Союзе.....kind of appropriate given where the recent problems with "suborning" our government officials originate.

    3. I just looked up the lyrics—looks like the opposite of Springsteen’s anthem.

  2. Sith, if one were to troll, Pocourante would be a Machiavellian Hypocorism to do so with.
