A Little of This, a Smidge of That and Sh*t

This, as you know, is Michelangelo’s painting The Creation of Adam (commonly known as God creating Man). I call it Man Creating God.

I only mention it but Trump’s, oopsie, I mean the Evangelical Asshole Brigade’s Supreme Court pick, Amy Coney-Barrett, is one of those christians who only acts like a follower of Jesus’s teachings when those lessons don't contradict her extreme right wing, callous beliefs. She’s anti-Roe, anti-Obamacare, anti-immigrant, pro-gun and, just generally, anti-human rights (unless you’re sporting a schwanz). She’s also a Pentecostal type hypocrite. You know, they’re the ones who believe in and engage in speaking in tongues (AKA glossolalia) and “divine” healing (no help from actual medicos allowed).

She’s argued that Catholic judges should recuse themselves from cases that involve the death penalty since the Church is against it. Her take was that it’d be impossible for Catholic judges to dispense the impartial justice citizens are entitled to.

This, however has not stopped her from being the judge on abortion and immigration cases. Apparently dear Amy belongs to the Church of the Sacred Hypocrite.

You shall also love the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.
      Deuteronomy 10:19
Cursed is anyone who withholds justice from the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow.’ Then all the people shall say, ‘Amen!’
      Leviticus 27:19
I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.
      Matthew 25:35
Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of my brethren you did it to me.
      Matthew 25:40

Yur shocked, right? Wut…no?

So much for the separation of church and state.

In other news. I can’t seem to get out of an ophthalmologist office in under 2.5 hours or without having four additional consults with other eye specialists tacked onto my schedule. I must have weirdly fascinating eyes OR they’re all warm for my 62 year old form AND warped sense of humor. //snort//

The good news is, my cornea’s all groovy and fine. I can ease back into wearing my PROSE lens now.

Here’s my unpopular opinion of the day – Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchettmeh.

I’m just not that into them. Yes, Hitchhi
ker’s Guide to the Galaxy was utterly brill and Pratchett’s collaboration with Neil Gaiman, Good Omens, was spectacular. HOWevah, try as I might I just canNOT get into any of their other books.

Why not? They’re amusing, irreverent, wacky and all that other good sci-fi/fantasy shit BUT they just don’t hold my interest. The only reason I can think of is that they don’t ever seem to have female protagonists and/or significant supporting players. Basically, they’re boy book authors. zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

In contrast John Scalzi and A. Lee Martinez, while definitively male, always have strong women type folk in integral roles, if not as star of the show.

I was blown away/LOVED Catherynne Valente’s Space Opera but none of her other books, so far, have really grabbed me.

I need to explore, continue to explore new, different authors. Maybe I should pick up Chandler Klang Smith's The Sky Is Yours. Or Alissa Nutting’s, Made for Love. OR, though not sci-fi, Mary Robison’s, Why Did I Ever?.

Got any strong female sci-fi/fantasy recommendations?
