Can't Buy a Thrill

Little thrills sustain me and yesterday was a good day for wee pleasures.

Jen took me down the mall (as we say here in coastal Massachusetts) so I could buy new sneaks. The Vans store didn’t have quite what I wanted BUT I was able to score these lovely purple suede babies. Now to break them in.

We had to cut through Macy’s to get to Vans. Lemme just say this, the size of Macy’s shoe department rivals most NFL stadiums. Okay, not really but it’s bloody close. Naturally, I took a look around. Did any of the zillions of shoes on display strike my fancy? No. Not one. Amongst the reasonable, if unappealing footwear, they stock an inordinate amount of 6” high strappy stiletto heels. Jesus, that shit’s just plain stupid.

Q: How can anyone walk, dance or run from predatory men (NOT bears) in those?
A: You can’t. The only thing you can do in heels like that is pose like some common Kardashian or Trump fucker. Also, in shoes like this, you can trip over non-existent dust mites and break an ankle or two. Good times, eh?

In any case, our Vans excursion only netted me a measly 5/8 of a rollator-assisted mile of walking. All the same, I was thoroughly knackered afterwards. Why? Because I’ve hardly walked much at all since my no-fun exhausting experience in Dental Land. That I can lose strength, endurance and ability so quickly is…well…a ginormous fucking bummer.

Ya know what this means? That’s right, before the rain begins this afternoon, I need to have a good, long seawall ramble. My slacker days are history (until the 28th which is this month’s brain surgery day). Unsurprisingly, this tune’s now playing in my head.

Another thing that’s perking me up this morning—on Threads, I follow Chris Barron, the songwriter, guitarist and lead singer of The Spin Doctors. They’re a fun band and all but I started following Barron entirely because he seemed like a cool dude who posts cat pics. He is, in fact, all that and more. Yesterday, on Caturday, I commented on a post of him with one of his kittens with a pic of me and Cake. Not only did he “like” it, he reposted. A famous musician noticed me! //swoon//

Okay, one last thrill—Jen, Oni and I watched the first ep of the teevee show Fallout last night.

Fallout is the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have. Two-hundred years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind—and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird, and highly violent universe waiting for them. It was fun, odd and defo intriguing. I'm looking forward to episode two.
