Bennington Art

For a small town of 15 or 16,000 (not including the cows, sheep,  llamas and goats) Bennington, Vermont has a tremendous amount of cool art happening.

It’s not just all the cats and moose either.
There’s the Bennington Arts Guild, the Art Museum, the Center for the Arts, Fiddlehead At Four Corners and more.

On this visit, Helen and I stopped into Fiddlehead at Four Corners, a gallery housed in a beautiful old, bank building. Nina and Joel, the owners, restored the first floor and mezzanine, transforming the space into a large, fab-ola gallery. The chandeliers, vast expanses of marble, the vaults, soaring ceilings with windows all around -- it’s all there and tremendous. It’s really a perfect space.

They carry Katherine Owen’s fun, funny mugs, Rina Fehrensen and Michael Maddy’s colorful vases and cups, James Michalopous’ bright and energizing prints. I saw a jubilant Emily Wilson platter, a glorious pair of bowls from Paul and Shela Ray’s studio and a transcendent vase by Robert Held.

I was seriously lucky to get out of there with just these two utterly exquisite wine glasses.

They carry a whole mess of other artists as well. They’ve photography, paintings, fabrics , hand made musical instruments and jewelry too. Truly an impressive array.

If you’re in Bennington, and can’t spend a full day gallery/museum hopping, followed by a late lunch at Peppermills, make sure you stop into Fiddlehead at Four Corners.

Joey, the dude behind the counter was knowledgeable, funny and helpful too.

Go, go, you’ll enjoy!
