My cousin Gary lives in Boothbay Harbor, Maine and is tight with the local fishermen dudes. He posted this on Facebook the other day:
I believe the gorgeous babe at right's name is Ramsey or maybe it’s Duncan — I forget now.
How is it that we’re allowing our world, our food sources to be defiled to the point of death? Doesn’t seem like an especially bright path. A clean, life sustaining planet seems like it’d be worth fighting for doesn’t it?

If you are a Global Warming denier, go talk to a fisherman. If you are thinking we can do something about it, you are mistaken. It's here, it's going to get worse, and we need to figure out how we are going to live in a rapidly changing climate. Islands up here are already disappearing at high tide and the acidity of the Ocean water is causing young lobsters to not be able to grow hard shells, making them prey for other sea creatures. I hate to say this, but we sort of missed the point where curbing pollution will make a difference, It's like quitting smoking when you already have lung cancer. From a recent article in the Portland Maine Press Herald:
A University of Maine survey of 11 Gulf of Maine locations suggests that numbers of young lobsters have declined by more than half their 2007 levels – significant since lobsters typically take about eight years to reach the legal harvesting size.Just LOOK at these magnificent freaky beasts!

Warmer ocean temperatures, pollution, atmospheric conditions and changes in predation and availability of food could all be to blame, say scientists, state officials and industry leaders. Lobsters are very sensitive to even subtle changes in temperature, scientists say.
Maine Department of Marine Resources officials say the decline does not appear to be the product of overfishing, as some environmental groups contend.

Does it really seem like a good trade-off to destroy our livable climate and our food security just to avoid a cost that the world’s leading scientists and governments agree is a mere 0.06% of annual growth? But the B1 scenario will be all but closed off to us with another decade of inaction. So then, what now? Do we just stop fighting, stop trying to combat and convert the climate criminals and asswipes who are more concerned about their big paydays than the future they’re creating for their children and ours?

The study notes, “Evidence indicates that the human influence on climate has already roughly doubled the probability of extreme heat events such as the record-breaking summer heat experienced in 2011 in Texas and Oklahoma.”
Suggestions from The Green Miles:
1) Clean your energy. Call your electricity company and ask how much of your power comes from solar and wind. Tell them you'd be willing to pay a little bit more to up the clean energy mix.Don't be afraid to talk about how climate change is impacting your community!
2) Clean your members of Congress. Call them and tell them you support them doing as much as they can to promote clean energy and shut down coal plants. Even if they already agree with you, they hear a LOT more from the bad guys than they do from the good guys like yourself and they'll appreciate hearing from you.
3) Talk climate change. Again, the bad guys are constantly talking to friends at BBQs, sending email forwards, etc., even though they don't actually understand climate change. Progressives think they need to be scientists to talk climate, which is wrong.
