Time for a Catpocalypse

Any of you ever wake up thinking that we’re well overdo for a rousing zombie/robot apocalypse? Ya know, something along the lines of I Am Legend (without the brill scientist searching for a cure), Terminator (without Sarah Connor or the good Terminator) or Three Robots (without the sweetness or cat overlords)?

Reading the morning news does it for me every damn time. I don't always win the battle to stay well informed AND sane.

Apparently the state of Florida is running a “civics boot camp” for teachers. Mind you, this is the same state which passed bills outlawing the teaching of anything that might make white students feel uncomfortable. I'm figuring that what Florida defines as civics, is more in line with that of a theocratic autocratic kakistocracy than democracy.

SB148/HB7 would censor protected speech in workplaces and classrooms by banning teaching about systemic racism and gender and race discrimination. It also removes instruction on mental and emotional health from our schools.

The bootcamps, which instructs teachers on “the way you should think,” are not mandatory but they come with a payday (you get $700 for the three day session). There’s also a chance to score a $3,000 bonus too.

As Bobby Zimmerman says, money doesn’t talk, it swears.

She (Anna Fusco, president of the Broward Teachers Union), said union members who attended the training sessions said they were being told to present to students “only one side of history.” (source)

A gun-loving California man allegedly bombarded the father of a school shooting victim with hundreds of emails, calling his late teen a “slut,” a “cunt,” and “human waste,” accusing her dad of molesting her, and signing off his most recent missive: “God Bless President Trump. His name is James Catalano and he lives in Fresno, California. His horrifically disgusting attacks were nailed via a ReCaptcha widget which logged his IP addresses. Are you a stratospherically malodorous dumpster fire of a human being with blindingly barbarous, sickeningly repulsive and deeply despicable thoughts and accusations that you want to spew online? You might wanna think twice before hitting the send/publish button.

He wrote “We are having a party every night of this Parkland trial,” said one message. “So glad to celebrate blood and death.” After which the messages became more vicious.

They traced one of the IP addresses to Catalano’s home in Fresno. The second one was traced to J-C Markets, Inc., Catalano’s commercial real estate business. The results of the third are still pending, but investigators strongly believe that IP address is also linked to Catalano’s business, according to the complaint. (source)
