Not Food—Food—DEF Not Food

Some days are all about animal videos. Yes, there were rescued cats with kittens, a dog with a newborn puppy in distress, a pair of cow bffs who were reunited after a two year separation and more cats, more dogs and then cats with dogs.

The one thing that surprised me about the cow video, they not only seemed to remember each other, they played—romped around the field together. They looked like they were totally celebrating being together again. What if cows are just as socially/family oriented as elephants, wolves and dolphins (to name just a few)?

I’m truly struggling with the latest temp drops (it's in the 20s...already?!) and will apparently do any old self medicating thing to stay covered in blankets INDOORS. Yes, animal vids totally count as medication.

My favorite Chinese restaurant in Cambridge is closing at the end of this month. I first went to Mary Chung’s during my first week of living here. It’s just a block or so up from MIT (my friend Craig and all his buds were in school there). Dinner there was a regular deal while I was hangin’ with that crowd. I continued to be a regular even after we moved to Valhalla from Cambridge. It’s just a hole in the wall and the wine’s horrible but the food is exquisite and the quality of service consistently brill.

I’ve lived in the Boston/Cambridge area for 42 years and Mary Chung’s has always been here. Hell’s bells, after my first brain surgery at 23, while still in hospital, friends brought me her dun dun noodles, suan la chow show and peking ravs.

I believe I’ll need to order up a dozen buckets of dun dun noodles to go and freeze them. I figure those’ll keep well and be awesome when reheated.

An aside—all the articles I've seen say that Mary Chung's has been in biz for 40 years BUT she's been around longer than that. The joint was legendary when I got here.

Apparently, another former-guy lawyer has run smack dab into the unforgiving hand of karma. According to one of Pedo Epstein’s victims:

Ransome said she couldn’t provide much detail because “I wasn’t ravishing Alan’s body, I was trying to close my eyes and just get it done so I could go home and watch TV, really.” But she did describe him as “quite an elderly man, wore glasses, quite pasty, pasty-skinned… wrinkly.” She also said Dershowitz looked “not well, I assumed,” and like “he wasn’t a healthy person.”

“I didn’t willingly go, ‘Hey, Alan, let’s have some fun,’ because no one on the planet would say that to Alan,” Ransome said.

Dershowitz…denies the claims in Ransome’s 2017 deposition. “She has no idea what my genitals look like. She made it all up,” he told the Daily Beast. He also told the publication that he’s “had sex with one woman since the day I met my wife” and denied ever being in contact with Ransome.  (source)
Yeah sure dude. You're saying your wang's SO stunning and memorable that simply everyone would have its appearance deeply and happily imprinted in their brains? Ego-the-size-of-Godzilla much?

I believe Douche about as much as I believe ANYthing out of almost any Republi/Fascist’s mouth. i.e., not a damn thing. If their mouths are open, it stands to reason, they're lying. Also, I’m starting to get Douche and Ghouliani confused. All these pallid, greasy, willy-wagging scamsters-on-the-make seem the same to me. They'd be utterly ignorable if they weren't such slime coated, skeezoid fame chasers.

  1. It sounds like you have some great memories associated with Mary Chung's restaurant. It can be tough to see a favorite place close down, especially when it has been a regular part of your life for a long time. However, it is important to remember that all things must come to an end eventually. It is natural for businesses to open and close, and it can be a good opportunity to try new places and make new memories.
