Morning

My current energy level
I’d like to register a complaint. It’s morning. I don’t feel like being awake. Sure, I could roll over and close my eyes for a bit longer but I won’t sleep. If it’s light out, if the sky isn’t dark, I’m not gonna be able to snooze. Even if my entire being is screaming “NAP NOW, BITCH!” I’m gonna be awake. That’s just a fact.

That was me all day yesterday too. I can’t have two days in a row of slothdom. One is excusable – everyone deserves a day off from exercise and being productive, right? Even me, right?!!!!! Two days in a row? Nope. That shit’s just plain unacceptable.

What’s on tap for today?

I’ve just started reading a collection of essays by comedian Whitney Cummings. The book is I'm Fine...And Other Lies. I’d never heard of her but, from the title alone, this looks like it’s right up my alley.

In one section she talks about a protracted hunt for the right therapist and the subsequent interview process. One gave her a series of questions to ask herself so's Whitney could get to know herself better. Here are a few of them:

What is your favorite animal? Name one that’s not a traditional pet and the qualities you admire.

For me, to name just one, is tough. I’m torn between the giant pacific octopus and the orca (duh!). Admirable qualities?

Octopuses are smart as hell and have wicked problem-solving skills.
They’re disguise masters, changing their colors and skin textures as a way of protecting themselves – camouflage. Also part of their communication. Maybe I’m an octopus?
While not TOTAL misanthropes, octopuses are introverts. I can relate.

Orcas are highly intelligent with a great ability to learn. Evidence? All those yacht rudder’s being surgically taken apart by gangs of laughing orcas! Crafty buggers, eh?
They’re way more social than me but I admire that (even though that’ll never be me).
Orca are fab communicators.

Your favorite animal supposedly represents how you see yourself.

Do I see myself as slyly smart or a smooth communicator? *snort* I’ve got a good, if tumor riddled, head on my shoulders but I’ll never give Einstein, Klimt or Dickinson’s legacies any competition. Communication-wise, I can often put my thoughts into words but I’m more apt to be blunt versus diplomatic.

Favorite article of clothing and why:
My robe and my bed jacket.

My robe is oversized, a deep sapphire blue, and made of thick fleece. It’s beautiful, warm, lush, enveloping, breathable, comfortable and unfussy.

My bed jacket is an old, ratty, fluffy, furry, 3/4 sleeve, leopard print thing. It’s SO comfortable, especially when I’m reading in bed. The lining is ripped to shreds and the faux fur is tatty. I should repair it and def wash it. I will, I will. Charitably, it's homely.

The article of clothing answer – this is supposedly how others perceive me. I really don’t get this at all. I MAYBE see how people could see me as my shabby, beat up bed jacket. I mean, YOU go through six giant neurosurgeries in six years (plus a few less than major procedures) and see how luxuriant and robust you come out.

I guess the point of her shrink’s exercise was to show the difference in how she sees herself and how others view her.

The last question wasn’t a favorite-thing question. It was how-do-you-imagine-yourself-responding to an imaginary situation.

You’re in a white room with no doors or windows – list three emotions that you might feel. My response?

PANIC
PANIC
PANIC

I mean, I’m claustrophobic. That’s to be expected.

This question supposedly provides insight into how we view death. I do NOT feel particularly panicked about death. At this point I’m anticipating, when the Grim Reaper shows up, it won’t be in the form of some spotter from the gym, an asshole I met at a bar or some other random violent white guy. Nope, it’ll probably be NF2 that takes me out. I’ve made peace with that.

In any case, I’ll get off my ass and exercise today, read more of Whitney Cummings’ essays and watch another episode of Alien: Earth with Jen, Oni, and Kevin later. Oh yeah, I’ll probably annoy Cake and Ten some too. Why? It’s one of my talents and I can’t let it go to waste.
