Clueless, Offensive and Flat Out Stupid

Mebbe you can help me understand something. Here's the sitch:

I read Sherman Alexie’s Twitter feed religiously.

His tweets are often funny, occasionally caustic, sometimes weary, frequently lyric and always worth the read. The comments can be entertaining as well.
Sherman Alexie
I guarantee you that Vladimir Putin has memorized the dialogue of every James Bond villain.

and every James Taylor song

Caught our dog reading "Call of the Wild." Should I be worried?
MSM
No, worry about "White Fang"

Sherman Alexie ‏
Paraphrasing Emily Dickinson: "God? God? God? God! God? God! God? God? God..."

Plus the meter: GOD god GOD god GOD god GOD/ GOD god GOD god GOD
GO
Ah the incongruous slanted juxtaposition of the Belle...I hope she's not seeing anybody in the after-life...

Sherman Alexie
Paraphrasing Walt Whitman: "Yeah, I'm full of contradictory bullshit. I love the USA! Wanna make out?"
SO
Somehow, it sounded loftier when he said it......
God forbid he stray from funny, lyrical or authorially informative (next reading date/location, book premier, etc) though.

One example:
In comments two dude bros go all poo flinging, condescending twatwaffle on Alexie.

"...more Hasty Generalizations..."
“So...just how obsessed with race are you?”
???????????????????????
What in Bast’s name is obsessive or in any way false in Mister Alexie’s statement?

Consider this: here are some of the books of the last century which are widely considered to be Great American Novels:
1900: Theodore Dreiser, Sister Carrie
1918: Booth Tarkington, The Magnificent Ambersons
1925: F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
1939: John Steinbeck, The Grapes of Wrath
1940: Hemingway, For Whom the Bell Tolls
1951: J. D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye
1960: Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird
1960: John Updike, Rabbit  Run
1973: Thomas Pynchon, Gravity's Rainbow
1985: Cormac McCarthy, Blood Meridian or the Evening Redness in the West
1996: David Foster Wallace, Infinite Jest
1997: Don Delillo, Underworld
2000: Michael Chabon, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay

You can also  look at NPR’s 100 Years, 100 Novels, One List but they include a few Brits and Irishmen, So, not ALL American.

These are the books which are lauded and taught in schools. These are the books held up as The Great American Novel. Note the abundance of men, particularly those rockin' a whiter shade of pale.

Yes, Toni Morrison, Alice Walker, Ralph Ellison, Zora Neal Hurston, Richard Wright, N. Scott Momaday, James Welch, Louise Erdrich, Sherman Alexie  might get a nod.

Maybe they're taught more (at all!) now than when I was a schoolkiddle (I sure as fuck hope so!).

I wonder, did these so smart, so well read, so man-of-the-world boys manage to shoot off a tweet to Updike to nudge him for his obsession with American small town, middle class WASPs? Did they get a sec to express their sad disappointment to Bukowski for his focus on the down and out? I expect they jumped into their way-back machine to give Jane Austen a raft of shit for writing of nothing but those pesky women’s issues.
“Brilliant guy but caught in a loop of intellectual dishonesty.”
They doubt Alexie’s experience, his perception of the world or are they just completely unable to walk a meter let alone a mile in another person’s Adidas? *Ahem* project much boys?

Maybe they’re just done with reading about the people, places and experiences of Alexie’s life and  characters. They’ve had their big Indian phase. Bored now. Understanding the world from other’s PsOV is SO tiring!

Possibly they hate being reminded that they’re playing on the lowest difficulty setting and still not succeeding?

And they’d like Alexie to tweet about...what? College football? Dating the prom queen? The Great American Dream Machine?
“Great American Novel” means “novel that appeals to white guys who think they can write the Great American Novel.”
These boys' ever so precious condescending shtick is really pretty hilarious. They reek of insecure, unpublishable, shame-faced thwarted ambition along with a soupçon of racist rhino feculence. Trying to take your former writer hero down a peg or 12 is so Unresolved Daddy Issues combined with Inability to Grasp That Success is Not Free or Easy.

What was it that I wanted help understanding again? Oh yeah, WHY do folks like this insist on making public fools of themselves? Would they say such clueless, offensive and flat out stupid shit like this to Alexie in person? I imagine they think they would.
