Was a Sunny Day

Big, big day yesterday. After a long ass trike ride down the beautiful, magical wooded marsh paths, Helen, John, the wee ones and their giant wookiee dog arrived for a little visit.

The girls had it in their heads that we just had to hike out to Raccoon Island, a tidal island, when the sea was out takin' a lunch break. Cool idea though I suspected it would disappoint.

When Jen and I had walked out there, a few years back, I'd big hopes of finding some remnants of ancient civilization. You know, a la Brough o' Birsay with it's Pictish stronghold history and the remains of ancient Viking settlements. Romance!

Did we find anything like that? Ah...no.

So yeah, I figured Madison and Julianna would be a little bummed (and they were) BUT it was a gorgeous, sunshine-y day and a good little adventure.

Afterward we hit the giant, Neck-wide annual yard sale held on the grounds of Saint Mergatroyd of the Blessed Greeting Card. It's always a jumble — a real mixed bag but I never fail to find a good book or two (Foundation Trilogy — I'd just been thinking that I wanted to reread it too!), a cool pair of earrings and a vid or two. I'm forever thinking that Next year I'll set up a table and sell some of my pots but, not only do always I lose track of when the event happens, I've yet to fire up that used kiln which friend and brill potter Holly gave me. I've shelves in the basement lined with greenware cups, just waiting for me to stop being the Procrastination Queen. It'll happen. Swear to Bast!

Next up, we hit the MOST awesome wine store, Bin Ends, down in Braintree (best town name EVAH!) and then over to Erin's. We crashed the Welcome Back Jack party. Jack is the McMurrer clan père — a fascinating dude who will, hopefully share some of his tales of derring do with Tell Me A Story. (Jack, if you're reading this, that was in fact a big ol' hint!)

And then home where I discovered that I'd earned my first sunburn of the season. Yea me. MUST unearth that sunblock today.
