Ice Ice Babies

Yesterday’s blizzard was really, down here on the Neck anyway, much more of a giant slush storm. The winds were insanely high (to the point that I couldn’t get out the door and over to the Y – staying upright was far too challenging) but the temps never got low enough for all-snow-all-the-time action. Until last night, after the storm ended, that is.

Valhalla and surrounds is now one giant ice sheet, It’s not gonna get outta the 20s today so Neck as Ice Rink is my new normal. *sigh* My mailbox and all of yesterday’s mail, by the by, is frozen solid. I just brought it inside to thaw. Hopefully there’s nothing important in that melting little iceberg.

In order to get to the gym today, I’ll break out my walker (which I haven’t used since my audio killing op, 12 years ago) and have Oni help me down the steps to the car. Christ this shit makes me feel decrepit. *KVETCH*

Meanwhile, on Shoutyface, local chums are posting their Florida vaca pics and California buds are sharing shots from their warm, green front yards. I HATE THEM ALL!

SUCCESS!
No, no, I really don’t……OK, maybe I do but just for today.

Speaking of decrepit, my little boy – the formal, former feral known as Rocco – is now having big troubles climbing onto my bed. Mind you, the box spring and mattress are on the floor so he’s got less than 18” or so to scale BUT his back legs and hips are pretty damn weak now. So weak he’s even having a hard time climbing into his own closet night nest. What to do, what to do?

I’ve put his furry blanket on the floor by the heating vent (he’s got big love, of late, for that vent) and made a set of steps to my bed out of books. Last time I checked, he was settled in, just south of my pillow. Yea Rocco!

Obvs him and my baby kitten Coco will be getting haddock for lunch.
I recently took up ice sculpting. Last night I made an ice cube. This morning I made 12, I was prolific.

The blast that swept him came off New Hampshire snow-fields and ice-hung forests. It seemed to have traversed interminable leagues of frozen silence, filling them with the same cold roar and sharpening its edge against the same bitter black-and-white landscape.

  1. I'm from PA and we've experienced the winter wonderland that is Stella, too. You know it's going to be interesting when your front door has been snowed shut!

  2. Poor Rocco! Our own tux-bearing feline (code named: Secret Agent Cat) decided he was really and truly done with this eating business, so he's not only been on antidepressants (to stimulate the appetite) but we've been force feeding him twice a day. He is thoroughly unappreciative, but getting strong enough to make his preferences known so I'll take it.

  3. Oh I am SO damn sorry about Secret Agent Cat (GREAT name, by the by) but happy as hell to hear he's on the mend! Rocco's appetite is strong but his lameness worries me so.
