Suckage

Turns out the upcoming eyelid surgery (being done to shore up my nerve damaged left side so as to protect my at-risk eyeball) is gonna be a lot more involved than I’d anticipated. It’s still outpatient BUT it's a level or three up from the last few times I've danced this particular tango.

After previous eye fun post ops, I'd lay abed for a day MAX with a bag of frozen peas gracing my glorious visage. There was no pain and I’d be back in action in no time.

This time, I’ll be playing the weak ass convalescent for a few days or so and wearing a patch for two weeks. Of course, everyone in my general vicinity will have to put up with me uttering Aye Matey! every three minutes or so. I’m gonna have Coco sit on my shoulder all the while to, ya know, give the full piratical effect and shit.

Coco’ll totally dig this! //snort//

I won’t be able to drive for two weeks. I hate driving so...YEA an excuse! BUT this means Jen and Oni will have to do my errand running and tote my saggy carcass to all the follow up appointments. *sigh* I know they don’t mind and want to help but I SO hate being on the DL. Not being able to do for myself blows fried mouse chunks.

General exercise is ixnayed for at least a week (*groan!*) and pool time will be off the menu for even longer – not sure how long yet. The surgeon’s helper, wonderfully, gave me her email address so’s I can get all my questions answered ahead of time (the procedure will be done on April 11th). I’m gonna start a list.

I've been through a shit-ton worse but that doesn't equal fine here, no big. I'm scared and trying to be my own damn cheerleader. If The Amazing Bob was here we'd hit Fratelli's, sit on the seawall watching the waves, probably do a bookstore run and then watch old eps of the Bob Newhart Show. I, for reals and true, CAN do this shit for myself. Also too, I've got good friends who'll help me with the Sis-Boom-Bah-You-Can-Get-Through-This-Shit action.

And then there's Coco – my faithful soon-to-be parrot.
Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone.

  1. Oh we SO going to dress you for the part. This is just too good to pass up. I'll find a saber and a tricorn hat and we'll get pics of you boarding the local dinghies. Oh yeah, we're all over this one. Oh, and I can likely help with driving too. I'll coordinate with Jen & Oni.
