Road Trip

Yesterday’s Westward Ho! adventure was interesting and fun.

I had to point out to Ten when we got to the BerkshiresHEY, we're in the mountains now! He’s used to the high peaks of Oregon (Mount Hood’s 11,500 foot elevation fer instance) versus our worn down summits (like Mount Greylock’s 3,489 foot crest). For him, these were rolling hills, not mountains.

Ah well, we can’t all be wonderfully statuesque, now can we?

Stockbridge and Alice's Restaurantt was our first stop. Sadly, though still named for Alice last time I was there (ten or fifteen years ago), it’s now Theresa’s Stockbridge Cafe AND she wasn't open for brunch either. Hmmph! Nonetheless the extremely TINY town of Stockbridge is charming as all  hell.

Also too, on the way into town we passed Ozzie’s Glass Gallery in nearby Lee. TREE-mendous, beautiful stuff! His studio is right there, on site too. Nice guy, nice big friendly dog and, yeah, I came home with a coupla pieces.

From there we motored over to Springfield, primarily to check out the Dr. Seuss Museum and Sculpture Garden, There are four other museums there as well. This would be a museum-o-mania day. Right?

Ah...not so much.

Neither of us have ever been to Springfield and, while it’s not a Manhatten-esque metropolis, it ain't small. Even with our tinyphone map functions, we got near hopelessly lost. Finally, seeing that we were near, we got out and walked. Interesting town – strip clubs and check cashing joints just a block or so away from expensive looking high rise condos and then, another block down, beautiful Victorians.

Worst selfie known to mankind
Eventually we found the museum quadrangle BUT my back, still recovering, was now most DEF UNhappy. We managed to check out most of Seussville and just one of the art museums before my spine totally put its foot down and said NO MORE.

Here’s a funny. There was a Senior Discount for anyone 60 or over. HEY! That’s me now! AND I got carded. Heh. Even in my utterly worn out, pained state, I managed to look questionably old enough to pass. I don’t believe I’ve been carded since my 20s. Cool.

The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum was worth the trip though it’s an odd, funny place. There are three wall sized pieces, crammed into the low ceilinged small basement floor. They weren’t adequately lit and there wasn’t enough space to stand back and really drink them in.

Still, especially if you've got kiddles, this is well worth the trip. I 'd get better directions though or, at least, NOT walk all over town just six weeks after back surgery. Just word-to-the-wise and shit.
Just suppose, for example,
you lived in Ga-Zayt
and got caught in that traffic
on Zayt Highway Eight!
Think! Think and wonder.
Wonder and think.
How much water
can fifty-five elephants drink?
And why is it
so many things
go to the Right?
You can think about THAT
until Saturday night
