When someone I’m “friends” with on Shoutyface posts an odd, disgusting meme, I think OMG, they must be snarking or trolling some of their more low information, primitive acquaintances. I stay out of it.
The latest was one claiming that our country’s being destroyed from within by the newly elected Muslim congresspersons. Another friend (or “friend”) of his replied with “too true.” I couldn’t bloody-well let that go by. I posted a comment allowing that our nation is being criminally banjaxed by Mitch-always-got-his-hand-out-for-bribes-McConnell; the UNstable UNgenious is causing hand over fist job losses due to his dimwitted tariffs and other hate-based initiatives; then there are all the pro-life Republi/Facists who are totally down with separating families and, oopsie, misplacing innocent children but, yeah, tell me again how It’s the Muslim congresswomen who’re killing democracy. K?
I worded it much more diplomatically...OK, slightly more.
The meme had extra added hate-addled stupid in its indignation over these not-Christian women not putting their hand on the Christian/Jewish bible while being sworn to uphold the constitution and laws of our land. I didn’t respond to this. Someone witless enough to agree with this egregious weasel spit is, seriously, not bright enough to get why that’d make NO bloody sense AT ALL. Making a serious motherfucking oath with ones hand on a bible ONLY makes sense IF you’re Christian or Jewish AND actually believe in much of what these books, new and/or the old, say.
Also, I only mention it BUT Article VI, Clause 3 of the Constitution clearly states:
In other words: no federal officeholder or employee can be required to adhere to or accept any particular religion or doctrine as a prerequisite to holding a federal office or a federal government job.
It’s right there in the fucking constitution!
What’s the point of swearing on a bible anyway? It’s a symbol, supposedly demonstrating that you’re taking your upcoming responsibilities as President, senator, congressperson or witness in a court of law mega seriously. Ya know, swear ta god!
Considering the Republi/Fascist Party’s crimes, stone cold callousness and deliberate ignorance of their constituents wants and needs, I’d say that’s a pretty damn worthless prop.
If you want or have personal need for such a prop, use an appropriate one. Keith Ellison’s Muslim and used a copy of the Koran when he was sworn in. That’s his most holy of books.
Me? If I was being sworn in I’d wanna use Wonder Woman #1 or Hawking’s A Brief History of Time or mebbe The Songs of Trees: Stories from Nature’s Great Connectors by David George Haskell.
You do meaningful shit your way, I’ll do mine.

Me? I MUCH prefer this meme. |

I am excited abut the diverse young congressional class of 2018. I smile every time I see them mentioned. What fantastic potential they have!
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, YES – same here!
Deletewell....republicans want to swear their oaths of office on a hundred dollar bill...that is their real Diety...and yet, they continue to be derelict in their duty, to the the Constitution, and to their constituents...Maybe we are in a race to see if our democratic republic can withstand the constant attacks on our Constitution and rule of law...
ReplyDelete2020 can't come soon enough!
DeleteI would use a Complete Shakespeare to swear on.
