Oh, C'Mon!

I don’t ask for much in my escapist reading. Really!

How about this; if you’re the author, don’t be so unimaginative as to give away the entire storyline within the first hundred pages. Make me curious. Keep me wondering about what happens next. If I can easily anticipate your next move, WHY should I bother reading?

Also, if your big surprise is that a dull character, who dies at the beginning, is actually still alive at page 279, at least make said player more than a big boring stereotype.

And that’s another thing – flesh out your cast members a bit. You can’t (rather, you shouldn’t be able to) pick up everyone’s personality off the discount rack at Walmart.

Yeah, I’m talking about Eric Garcia’s Casual Rex (mentioned in yesterday’s post). I’d expected so much more, particularly after reading that he co-wrote Repo Man. That’s one of my fave flicks.

So, what now? For starters, I can cross this author off my list. Can I go out to the bookstore? Not likely. I’d need to use the wheelchair versus my walker and brace. At this point it’s, amazingly, too long of a hike from the parking lot to the SciFi section. Also, I need to practice the transfer (from wheelchair to car and vice versa) a few times, MINIMUM, with my Occupational Therapist before Ten and I can go solo. Yes, I haz a sad.

So then, I’ll raid Oni’s book collection (or have Jen raid it for me), look online and do MORE leg exercises. My impatience factor has just hit a steep increase. I hear you, ‘isn’t it always at a high level?’
