Selfie

I've not read a lot of self published books before. Most of that is because they don't get much, if any, publicity. No one's talking about them. Another reason? Self pub, to me, means bad editing. Think The Graveyard Shift – good, fun, creative story/atrocious writing (understatement city). This author, seriously, should've hired a talented ghostwriter or an editor willing to, essentially, hold the writers hand throughout. Honestly, it's the only book I will have ever thrown out. Between the grammar, character, text forms, triteness and layout inconsistencies – no, just no.

Not all self publishing writers are so craptastically wretched though

There are surprises such as Kevin Tudish's health, happiness, LOVE, peace, prosperity, SAFETY. Then there's A. Lee. Martinez, an author usually published by Simon and Schuster. Why would he self pub when he's got a big NY company backing him already? Dunno, we're not besties or anything.  Maybe S&S weren't interested in putting out a short story collection but A. Lee had bills to pay. //shrugs//

I guess all I'm saying here is this – just because a book is self published doesn't mean it sucks bantha wang.
