The worst part about being physically disabled is the boredom. Supposed to be rainy and up to 83ยบ today. Woo Hoo. Can we send some of our rain out to Oregon?
I’m not keen on any of the books I recently bought so I’ll do a little online book shopping later.
I’ve lost interest in Consider Phlebas—too many indulgent, endless, masturbatory fight scenes. Dark Rising (or whatever it’s called) is yet another NYC (including the boroughs) phone book sized tome with mysterious, cunning houses and distant relations.
I don’t have the energy to lift these fuckers let alone get through the predictable story lines. I’m hunting for a relatively brief (but not short) story. A mystery or sci/fi thriller with loads of arch humor like:
- Will Destroy the Galaxy for Cash by Yahtzee Croshaw
- The Past is Red by Catherynne Valente
- Scalzi’s new one The Kaiju Preservation Society
These all look like they fit the bill. That and I’ve not yet read all of Tom Holt’s offerings. Yes, it'll be a big day in Book Shopping World.
Today, after PT, I may just do something crazy rare and watch teevee. I’ll set up my wheelchair and ottoman, pop Bladerunner or one of the Alien vids into the old disk player and get lost for a couple hours.
Or, if the rain holds off, I'll sit on the porch and absorb the smell of the ocean —breath deep and all that. Maybe I'll watch our bird visitors with Coco.
