I’m still not going out much—only to the hospital (where everyone’s masked) and now the very occasional walk to and along the seawall. If I see another person, the mask goes on PRONTO. If I, Bast forbid, forgot my mask, I pull my T up over my mouth and nose.
I live in Massachusetts. We've got the second, after Vermont, highest vaccination rate in the country. We’re at 73%. Not 100%. Idiots, after all, are everywhere. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to hear that the Former Guy voting nurse who lives across the street, was unvaxxed.
Which gets me to Barak Obama’s birthday party. I’ve seen one or two “journos” and bloggers defending the unmasked, unvaxxed and, doubtless, unbathed hordes at South Dakota’s probable super-spreader rally with “what about Obama’s party!”
Yeah, let’s review. To get into Obama's outdoor party you had to show proof of vaccination or recent negative test results. Masks were handed out. Also, the invitations shrunk to just close friends and family . Even with all the precautions, yes, there may be a few breakout cases. Maybe not.
South Dakota’s rally? None of that rotten science stuff for the 700,000 attendees. Come one, come all and let’s pack the bars! Wear a mask if you feel like it but no pressure. Cases are guaran-damn-teed and they’re unlikely to be mild. And don’t forget, the governor of South Dakota (a state with a nasty-ass history as it is) is the ever-corrupt, moronic and on-the-take Kristi Noem.
I wouldn’t give a damn about the dim Sturgis crowd (and I don’t), it’s all the children, elderly, medically compromised and unsuspecting coworkers who the bikers will gift it to, that I feel sorry for.
Me? Between the lack of hearing and current immobility, I’m not taking any chances.
What about the upcoming school year?
On Friday, the Florida Department of Health issued emergency orders giving school districts the right to impose mask mandates on students and employees—but only if parents had the ability to opt their children out of wearing one. Governor Ron DeSantis, unsurprisingly, has even vowed to defund any schools that don't give students whose parents don't believe in the virus the ability to opt out of this. (source)So, DeathSantis and his leashed ‘Health Department’ have made the mask mandate utterly worthless. Basically, they’ve said ‘we don’t care if ANYONE dies.’
So then, Florida with its reported 2.7 million reported cases and 39,695 deaths (and those are just the reported cases and deaths)? They lead the nation. Woo-hoo—WE"RE NUMBER 1—WE"RE NUMBER 1!
Florida, if it was another country, would be blocked. No flights, cars or buses from there could cross the border. No tourists would be allowed reentry.
