Editors and Monsters

I’ve discovered that I now possess a nasty inclination to edit, in my head anyway, every blasted thing I read. Yes, this includes posts on Threads, newspaper articles and books. Often, if the post/article/passage is written badly or incomprehensibly enough, I’ll blow it off and move on to something new.

NOT in this case though.
The man believed to be the worst necrophiliac killer in British history was able to abuse the bodies of more than 100 women and girls over a 15-year period because of “serious failings” at the hospitals where he worked, an inquiry has found. (source)
For starters, necrophiliac killer?

Necrophiliac
     noun
a person who is sexually attracted to or has sex with dead bodies

So this man is a killer of necrophiliacs? Ah…no. The man, David Fuller, is both a murderer AND a necrophiliac. That's just a bit different, no?
During his trial in 2021, Fuller admitted to having murdered 25-year-old Wendy Knell and 20-year-old Caroline Pierce in separate attacks in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, in 1987. He subsequently admitted to sexually abusing the bodies of dead women and girls aged between nine and 100 years while working for Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS trust (a large hospital) between 2005 and 2020.

I’m curious as to how he managed to bang so many corpses and not get caught.

Over the years, there were missed opportunities to question Fuller’s working practices,” the inquiry’s chair, Sir Jonathan Michael, said, as he announced the first round of findings on Tuesday.

“He routinely worked beyond his contracted hours, undertaking tasks in the mortuary that were not necessary or which should not have been carried out by someone with his chronic back problems. This was never properly questioned.”

Missed opportunities?" Gee, ya think?! Sounds like he came off, to his lackadaisical bosses, as a hard worker, a star employee even. It appears his supervisors were totally asleep at the wheel.
Failures of management, of governance, of regulation, failure to follow standard policies and procedures, together with a persistent lack of curiosity, all contributed to the creation of the environment in which he was able to offend, and to do so for 15 years without ever being suspected or caught.”
Asleep at the wheel for 15 dead motherfucking years.

How was Fuller caught. Unlike other parts of the hospital's mortuary, there was no CCTV in the post-mortem room. Did someone walk in on his ugly old self as he was raping someone's dead Grammy?
Advanced DNA techniques identified Fuller as the bedsit murderer - which led police to discovering his necrophilia.

It was during a search of his house and home office that detectives found hidden computer hard drives, CDs, and floppy discs with more than 14 million images of sex offences. (source)
So, it was only after the cold cases were solved that Fuller’s grisly hobby was discovered.

The Morgue Monster won’t be getting out of prison during this lifetime—not alive anyway.
