"The leader of a recently-launched political action committee aimed at female voters in Texas said this week that equal pay laws were not “practical” because women were “extremely busy.”The inanity was dribbled out by Cari Christman, the executive director of the Texas-based group Red State Women PAC.
Too busy for equal rights/equal pay laws? HUH?! and a resounding WTF!!!?
Is this the same as people of color NOT needing the Civil Rights Act of 1964 because, ya know, the Browns are extremely busy?
Then we have this jewel from Texas GOP executive director Beth Cubriel:
"Men are better negotiators," Cubriel said in an interview that aired on the news show "Capital Tonight," suggesting there are other ways for women to resolve the pay gap than through state courts. "I would encourage women, instead of pursuing the courts for action, to become better negotiators."Right--simple as that, isn't it? We Vagina Americans just need to hone our negotiating skills. Easy! Of course!
From the article Negotiating While Female: Sometimes It Does Hurt to Ask on Slate:
In a 2007 study, Linda Babcock and Hannah Riley Bowles found that men and women were less likely to want to both hire and work with women who asked for raises; the go-getting femmes were perceived as demanding and uncollegial. Raise-seeking men, on the other hand, faced no backlash at all: Not only did the study participants tend to grant them lots of (hypothetical) perks, but socially their images went untarnished. What, I ask you WHAT is in the water down in Texas? I know there are normal, sentient women (and men!) in Texas. So, what happened to these dim, self disrespecting and self deceiving examples of gentlewoman-hood? Will they convince the majority of Lone Star women that they just need to work harder, happily settle for less and be sure to vote for the shitstain who has:
* said that cities in Texas should not have to provide wheelchair access under the Americans With Disabilities ActYeah, he seems great, eh? //SNARK//
* heavily supports discriminatory Voter ID laws and filed a lawsuit against the Justice Department when Texas attempted to pass restrictions on those.
* often touts that he has sued the administration 27 times. Seventeen of those are suits filed against the Environmental Protection Agency.
By the by, there’s actually an organization called The Stepford Wives and they're NOT being all hipster ironic either!
Stepford Wives Organization celebrates the male as head-of-our-household (ed note: as opposed to equal partner in this game of life) and the traditional family unit. We believe the traditional family is still a good, sound idea that can be brought into this modern day and age alongside new living arrangements.and a reader question found on their FAQ page:
At different points in our lives, we realized that staying at home and attending to and pleasing the head of the household was our main calling in life.
I’m a member of the transgender / crossdresser / bDsm community. Can we join your organization?
and they just go on and on.We can’t control who reads our website, or who pretends or fantasizes to live our way. While we think you should be free to live your life as long as you’re not hurting anyone, the answer is No. We feel if you live by the tenets of traditional marital obedience, there’s no need to stray into deviance and fringe behavior. We like normalcy and promote traditional, conservative values.
I imagine The Stepford Wives sister org. is Happy Handmaids.
The Stepford brigade isn't located in Texas, by the way. According to their website they're, appropriately enough given the 1975 movie, in Western Connecticut.
Just to be wickedly ultra clear--if you and your life partner start a family AND you can afford to live on one salary, I believe it’s good and important for one parent to be home with the kiddle(s). That’s not a reality for the vast majority of couples though. A great many of my reproducin' friends opted for one parent working night shift with the other on days. They didn’t see each other much but the bairn always had one parental unit around. Hard, hard work having kids but that’s another can ‘o’ rant.

only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments
that differentiate me from a doormat.”
