The Long, Glorious, Driftless Weekend

Nothing quite like a meandering long summer weekend — one with sun, rain and fabola movies at the cinema.

On Wednesday there was the annual Neck-wide Fourth of July BBQ party, followed by fireworks and a bonfire down the street on Edgewater Beach. The Amazing Bob and I put in an appearance at one party and then came home to hide out from the huge crowds with Jen and Oni.

I took fabulous long walks and scrambles on the beach at low tide.

TAB and I hit the bookstore where I scored some mindless, sci fi themed fluff.

And then... then...yesterday Stan and I went to see Maleficent and it was BRILLIANT — just 99 kinds of fabulous!

Most sites really get the description wrong-o city. They leave out the vileness of the king and the stratospherically salient fact that Maleficent was drugged, horrifically brutalized, crippled and betrayed by the human boy with whom she was in love. Yeah, he turned out to be something less than a steaming pile of poo on Wonder bread.

All IMD says is this:
A vengeful fairy is driven to curse an infant princess, only to discover that the child may be the one person who can restore peace to their troubled land.
Pathetic.

Wikipedia  has a lot more but, if you plan to see the flick, mebbe best not to read the whole thing, Spoiler alert, don’cha know.

Oh and the show was in 3D! Too awesome. Apart from the final vignette, which was just too saccharinely pat, the movie was, to my mind, perfect. A total MUST see and, if you have daughters, you’ve GOT to take them! I say this grudgingly since it’s a Disney production, of course. Maybe the mouse is evolving though?

What’s on tap for this last day of driftless sunny weekend joy? //shrugs// Jen mentioned brekkie complete with mimosas *YEA* Apart from that...dunno. Maybe I'll be reading my sci fi fluff on the porch. Possibly some painting in my basement studio after too long in the sun. Assuredly there'll be play time with Coco and....and....? Today is about relaxing — letting go of stress that’s just not doing me a damn bit of good. Hopefully my terrific trike will be fixed and I can go for a long ride later as well.
