Tulips, Words, Curses, etc.

Happy Mother’s Day to all you Mutha’s out there.
sophistry
noun [sof-uh-stree]
1. a subtle, tricky, superficially plausible, but generally fallacious method of reasoning.
2. a false argument; sophism.
Trump's transparent attempts at sophistry, in his efforts to quash investigations into his various crimes, would be laughable if they weren't so vile and destructive to the nation.
saudade
noun [soh-dah-duh]
(in Portuguese folk culture) a deep emotional state of melancholic longing for a person or thing that is absent.
I’m drowning in saudade as I remember Obama’s brilliance, grace, sanity and wisdom.
visceral
 adjective [vi-sə-rəl, ˈvis-rəl]
1. not intellectual :  instinctive, unreasoning visceral drives
2. dealing with crude or elemental emotions :  earthy a visceral novel
The visceral tweets which Tiny Hands von Midget Brain reliably excretes whenever he feels offended, are just one obvious example of why he’s unfit for the presidency.

Here are a few beauties from Yiddish Curses for Republican Jews (hat tip to Jenny for turning me on to these):
  • May you sell everything and retire to Florida just as global warming makes it uninhabitable.
  • May you live to a hundred and twenty without Social Security or Medicare.
  • May you have a rare disease and need an operation that only one surgeon in the world, the winner of the Nobel Prize for Medicine, is able to perform. And may he be unable to perform it because he doesn’t take your insurance. And may that Nobel Laureate be your son.

From the latest Krugthulu (AKA Paul Krugman, Nobel Prize winner for Economics, professor and all around brill, reality based egg) column,  Judas, Tax Cuts and the Great Betrayal:
Everyone understands that Mr. Comey was fired not because of his misdeeds during the campaign — misdeeds that helped put Trump in the White House — but because his probe of Russian connections with the Trump campaign was accelerating and, presumably, getting too close to home. So this looks very much like the use of presidential power to cover up possible foreign subversion of the U.S. government.

And the two leading Republicans in Congress are apparently O.K. with that cover-up, because the Trump ascendancy is giving them the chance to do what they always wanted, namely, take health insurance away from millions of Americans while slashing taxes on the wealthy.
From an interview re: 45’s latest bullshit, distraction action with Dale Ho, (Director of the ACLU's Voting Rights Project):
You can tell that this is a sham commission just by the appointment of Kris Kobach, someone who has devoted much of his professional life to suppressing the vote, to vice-chair. It’s a circus show, designed to undermine confidence in our system and to reach a pre-determined result and to justify laws that make it harder for people to register and vote as a result.
Guess what, you orange humunculoid grease stain – the more shit you throw at us, the more people join the resistance. The Russian collusion investigation will continue and you will not be king. You and your malignant spawn will be magnificently lucky to avoid jail time.

Ooof! Possibly I need to crawl back into bed with her royal highness Coco the Great and jump back into Vonnegut’s Galápagos. OR hit the gym and elliptical off all this steamrolling rage. Yeah, that’s the ticket!

  1. Yeah, Trump's attempts at sophistry aren't very subtle. Lawyers can sometimes manage to trick you into believing something by virtue of their way with words. Trump is sort of... yeah, visceral. His words are like sledgehammers.

    1. Indeedy – he's got all the grace and subtlty of a sledgehammer combined with the vocabulary of a 12 year old.

And now I have this tune in my head. Thank you! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g93mz_eZ5N4
