I dreamed that I was hurrying down the Commonwealth Mall in Back Bay—had to get to work downtown. Why, given that I was running late, did I not just jump on the T—the subway? And then miss the wonderful architecture? Second Empire? Queen Anne, Romanesque Revival? Miss all the Victorian brownstones? Could not do!
Funny thing, as I approached the Public Garden, the street began to look more and more like the Wilmersdorf neighborhood of Berlin only very, very Gothic. The Garden side of Arlington Street was now lined with late Gothic office buildings, all painted white. In order to get to downtown, I needed to either take a shortcut through the buildings or walk a few blocks to get around them.
What to do, what to do?
I attempted to cut through and all of a sudden I was Alice Through the Looking Glass. The interiors were all cramped and three quarters normal size. It was absolutely claustrophobia inspiring AND there was no back exit for me to escape. Christ, I was gonna be SO later for work and all because I just had to check out some cool pointy arches, flying buttresses and a few scary gargoyles and gryphons.
Then I woke up wondering what this all meant. No clue but I certainly enjoyed the art tour.
