Sunday Sermonizing

When did I become an introvert? OK, I’m really not BUT Imma ignore those three friend requests that I just got on Shoutyface.

Warum? Two are from people I’ve known. That's past tense and I aim to keep it that way. They’re bullies. Why would I invite that shit into mi casa? Hint: I would NOT…not on a bet and not for a laugh at their expense (though that last bit’s tempting – yes, I can be mean).

The third was from someone I don’t know. I explored her page to see whether we really could be buds only to find one of those inane “If ya ain’t got Jesus, ya ain’t got nothin’” memes. Nope, not gonna go there.

Now then, this person may well be walking the walk, not just advertising her giddy thrill in having a a group of chums who all feel mondo superior to us heathen types but HOW would I know? Leading with yur nothing unless yur humping and fetishizing JAY-zus kinda tells me right off that you really don’t understand your purported savior’s teachings.

Those Right Wing Jesus zealots? Those deeply “christian” Trump worshippers? They’re giving God & Son a VERY bad name. Obvs they’re devotees, they’re followers of Play-doh Jesus.

Here, lemme assist. When the J-man’s bud Matthew said,


The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. Matthew 25:40

He was talking about all those brown skinned refugees at our southern border.

Then James chimed in:

What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.  James 2:14-26

Those “good works?” That includes (but is not limited to) little things like donating TIME, goods and money to folks in need – doing it without judgment, preaching and condescension too.


 If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full.

But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. Luke 6:32-36

This bit of advice, by the by, includes your gay, trans, feminist and brown enemies too. Yeah, even if they're Democrats!

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:16

The short, pithy version? Walk it, don't talk it.

Just so’s ya know, I wouldn’t accept a friend request from someone whose page is full of zealous, evangelistic atheist memes either.

A weensy reminder, I’m a happy agnostic – been one for most of my long life too. I’m wholly uninterested in proselytizing from either end of the spectrum. Having said that, if you’re rilly, rilly into nature worship or polytheism in general, I’ll give a listen. Very much doubt I'd convert BUT I'll accept your "friend" request.
