Boycott Florida? GOOD idea!

I have friends and family who live in Florida just like Texas. I want them safe, healthy, prosperous and happy. With governors, senators and reps all but holding knives to their throats, it’s near impossible to see that happening.

So, let’s commence with the boycott action!

First, discourage your college age kids from going there on Spring Break…if you value their lives, that is.

What corporations are good to shun and otherwise avoid like the plague?

Walt Disney World and Resort in Orlando of fucking course!

Darden Restaurants. That name’s not familiar to me. Why not? They’re the evil overlords for a whole slew of shitty, almost fast food, low end eateries like Olive Garden, Longhorn Steakhouse, Bahama Breeze and Cheddar’s.

Sfn Group, Inc. They’re a temp agency. You need to find temp work in Florida? I bet there are a shitload of other options.

Massachusetts NOT Florida

 Bloomin’ Brands is another evil overlord for low end, mall type food outlets. Under their plastic umbrella you’ll find Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba's “Italian” Grill and Aussie Grill (which looks like the Burger King version of Outback). Do your health, the planet and everyone else a favor—eat less (or no) beef and ditch the chain chophouses.

This next one is gonna be rough for me Navarro Discount Pharmacies, Inc. WHY? They were just purchased by CVS. While Navarro is based in Medley Florida, CVS is HQed in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. Do I boycott CVS, which supplies my now, copious meds or Navarro which is irrelevant to me (since I don’t live in Florida). There are no longer any mom & pop drug stores, at least not in my area—it’s CVS or Walgreens. We’ve been backed into a corporate corner.

This next one’s easy for me—Royal Caribbean Cruises. I don’t do cruises. Maybe you or someone in your family does though. Pick another one.

Red Lobster, another joint just one step up from Long John Silver’s, is based in Orlando. If you crave large sea insects, try someplace else.

Winn-Dixie and Publix are grocery store chains.

Need investor, title insurance and settlement services for your real estate and mortgage industry? Duck Fidelity National Financial, Inc. They’re headquartered in Jacksonville.

What about college? Is your kid thinking about a year round Spring Break at the University of Florida? DING DING DING, try another school kiddo! But, but, but oceanography! Try UC San Diego, UCLA, University of Connecticut or Stony Brook in NY.

There are a bunch of med groups on the list too. Fer fuck’s sake, try Mass General Hospital here in Boston, New York-Presbyterian Hospital, UCLA Health or Northwestern Memorial in Chicago. I hear tell that each of those cities have excellent airports, a plethora of cabbies and the hospitals are tops.
