It's Cait Sìth Day

Depending on who you ask (or which website you land on) the cait sìth or cait sidh (pronounced ‘caught shee’) AKA fairy cats, are cat shapeshifters and/or oracles who can see the future and predict the weather. They’re elastically described as both big and small, black with a white spot on its belly or neck or they're grey tiger striped.

The cait sìth control forgotten places and walk the shadows, the dark, not entirely visible pockets of the world.

Forgotten places where cait sìth may rule?

The fairy village in Waterbury, Connecticut:

Some rumors say that a woman from the nearby town of Middlebury went mad and claimed she was being vexed by little fairies, demanding that her husband build them a village so they would live far away from her and leave her in peace. (can relate—have asked Ten to do this very thing) Another story is that a man named William heard the voices of the elves, who demanded that he build them a village. After doing so, they still tormented him until he took his own life. Locals say if you go out on the night of a full moon you can hear the sounds of the elves laughing at the trick they played on him. (source)
Łapalice Castle
in Poland—a lonely symbol of Poland’s inherent madness

Craco, an abandoned, ancient hilltop village in Southern Italy with tombs dating from the 8th century BCE.

The ghost town, Pripyat, Ukraine. This was the city most effected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster of 1986.

City Hall Subway station in NYC, which has been closed for 77 years now. It’s a beauty and must be home to a sizable fairy population. I firmly believe that Martin Millar’s Good Fairies of New York, spend their winters here (summers in Central Park, of course).

Can't you just imagine the fairy cats roaming around, ruling these orphaned places? I sure as hell can.

In Scotland the rare Kellas cat has been romanticized, mythologized as a cait sìth. Nope, Kellas cats are fer reals wildcat/domestic sweetie hybrids (and not recommended as pets—too fierce). They live, for the most part, in the gorgeous Northern Highlands. I wonder if they like Fancy Feast or Savory Salmon Treats.

Just FYI, I strongly believe these babies are close cousins of our precious Princess Coco. You know I’m right.
