Infinitesimal
adjective
exceedingly small; minute:
noun
an indefinitely small quantity; a value approaching zero.
How do you pronounce infinitesimal? I think I’ve always said in-fin-tesimal (leaving out the ite) but it looks like it’s supposed to be in-fih-nih-tes-ih-muhl. On googling how to pronounce, the bulk of what comes up are click to listen to pronunciation sites. Sure—that helps (not). Deaf here.
Infinitesimal used in a sentence?
The honesty, empathy, respect for their fellow citizens and the rule of law exhibited by Republi/Fascists is infinitesimal.
Frankly, the word sounds space age to me. Seems like it should be used at least twice in every space adventure tale. And now, that Star Trek (original series) episode, Spectre of the gun comes to mind. Have you seen it?
Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, and Chekov beam down to the planet Melkot—the residents are pissed at the Enterprise for some dramatic, script enlivening reason.
Their punishment is death via a scenario pulled from Kirk’s mind: the fog disappears and they find themselves in a vague, incomplete facsimile of 1881 Tombstone, Arizona. Everyone’s phasers have been changed into 19th-century revolvers. Kirk checks a newspaper to discover the place and date, and it’s the day of the infamous gunfight between the Clantons and the Earps. Sheriff Johnny Behan appears and greets them as Ike, Tom, Frank, Billy, and Billy which means that they’re the Clantons. Both Kirk and Spock know the history well—the others not so much, and Kirk tells an apprehensive Chekov that the Clantons lost the feud. (source)
What are some other space westerns?
Cowboys & AliensBearing a mysterious metal shackle on his wrist, an amnesiac gunslinger (Daniel Craig) wanders into a frontier town called Absolution. He quickly finds that strangers are unwelcome, and no one does anything without the approval of tyrannical Col. Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford). But when Absolution faces a threat from beyond Earth, the stranger finds that he is its only hope of salvation. He unites townspeople, outlaws and Apache warriors against the alien forces in an epic battle for survival. (source)Okay, this one’s set in late 19th century Arizona so it's not a space western necessarily. There are alien invaders though. Also too, Daniel Craig is easy on the eyes. Wins all around.
The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett are total Spaghetti Westerns and I love them for it. Plus, Dyn Jarren is def the Man with No Name.
Five hundred years in the future, a renegade crew aboard a small spacecraft tries to survive as they travel the unknown parts of the galaxy and evade warring factions as well as authority agents out to get them. (source)
Underrated, fabulous show that was cancelled WAY too early (in its FIRST season!). I understand that Disney plans a reboot but rumor has it is that they want to make it family-friendly—AKA pablum. I has a sad. Still, I’d give it a go.
I do love a good space opera.
