Great Ways to Start the Day

  • Finding out that Liar Lake lost the governor’s race in Arizona.
  • Seeing a snap of Fetterman at work wearing an ill fitting suit. I’m wondering—if Sinema can wear disco queen date duds to the job, why can’t Fetterman wear shorts and a hoodie?
  • Reading NPR’s spot-on first sentence in the post about the scum sucking weasel’s latest grift and distraction attempt:
Donald Trump, who tried to overthrow the results of the 2020 presidential election and inspired a deadly riot at the Capitol in a desperate attempt to keep himself in power, announced he is running again for president in 2024.
  • Fast walking (with rollator) my first half mile outing of the day. Yes, a fair bit of yesterday’s motivation was the temp—just above freezing. I’m also attempting to up my amble rate. I had a dream where I was running—wouldn’t it be some cool shit if I rehabbed so well that I could, ya know, jog?!

Pecan—how is that very short, simple word pronounced?

PEE-can? PEE-khan? pi-CAN? pi-KHAN? (short i)

According to dictionary.com and Merriam-Webster pi-KHAN, pi-CAN and PEE-can are all acceptable.

The Cambridge Dictionary  tells me that only pi-CAN is correct in the US.

Ya know what? I really don’t care—I just want some pie NOW!

I’ve just discovered that I can track my walking for the entire past year. Over the past seven days I’ve averaged close to or more than a mile per day. Last year at this time I was mostly in a wheelchair, only able to walk 100 or so steps per day. Thank the little baby Bast for my phone’s step minder. It’s very easy for me to forget that I’m making progress. My next goal is to be able to walk a mile in one go (versus two).

I love cat rescue stories and this one is no exception.  Still, I find myself wondering—how come heroic tales of the rescue of human children aren’t a daily feature?

The Trump administration separated more than 5,000 children from their families at the border between 2017 and 2018. In the aftermath of that atrocity, 545 children remained without their families. Today, under the Biden administration, at least 400 of them have been reunited with their families. (source)
There’s this but I’m horrified that 5,000 children were snatched away by the government to begin with. The Trump mob was a gruesome obscenity.

Speaking of the Orange Obscenity—I found the right wing New York Post’s coverage of  O.O.’s recent announcement utterly hilarious.

Almost 200 Years Late, House Hears Cherokee Case For Representation

More promising news:

Australian mining billionaire Andrew Forrest has launched an investment fund that is hoped will be worth at least $25bn (£21bn) to help rebuild war-torn Ukraine.
Mr Forrest and his wife have committed $500m to the fund, which its organisers say could eventually grow to $100bn.

The Ukraine Green Growth Initiative plans to invest in primary infrastructure such as energy and telecoms networks.

President Zelensky welcomed the move.

LOVE that last line—President Zelensky welcomed the move. Gee...RILLY?!
