This and That

The answer to the medieval owl question, at right, is this—I’m teetering between numbers three (nervous and fearful?) and seven (angry). I believe it’ll be smart for me to duck the news today.

That and I need a solid dose of John Lewis Wisdom. Here are a few words to get me (and you too) up and ready to fight the nuclear despondency with which the mainstream media, fascists and assholes in our own camp are trying to gaslight and saddle us.

Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble.

Courage is not how a man stands or falls, but how he gets back up again.

Freedom is not a state; it is an act. It is not some enchanted garden perched high on a distant plateau where we can finally sit down and rest. Freedom is the continuous action we all must take, and each generation must do its part to create an even more fair, more just society.

We have been too quiet for too long. There comes a time when you have to say something. You have to make a little noise. You have to move your feet. This is the time.

When you see something that is not right, not just, not fair, you have a moral obligation to say something. To do something. Our children and their children will ask us, ‘What did you do? What did you say?’ For some, this vote may be hard. But we have a mission and a mandate to be on the right side of history.

In the Ridiculous Dolt department—Matt Gaetz has prepped for his future in the Trumpettes  with a badly done facelift and Botox. All he’s missing is the bleach blonde dye job and 20 pounds of foundation/blusher slathered on his smug, sleazy mug.

Maybe he’s trying to look younger so he can get more “dates” with 17 year olds.

A couple folks on Threads have said that Gaetz is two white tigers and a life partner from having a Vegas act. Honestly? That’s an insult to Siegfried & Roy—their plastic surgery and makeup were of much higher quality. Gaetz is definitely more in the Wayne Newton, Mickey Rourke camp.

Found a fabulous, inspiring Thread yesterday. What did it inspire me to do? Sit in a coffee shop or bar, people watch and tell myself stories about all the groups of people who walk in. That’s what!

Next I found a post (which I’ve since mislaid) about there being a known and apparently significant fairy population in Buffalo, New York. I had NO idea! My grandfather grew up there—I wonder if he was part fae. I wonder if I am?

Did you know Buffalo had fae? NEITHER DID I UNTIL I MOVED HERE.

Apparently it’s a thing. When I ask people from here if there are fae, they shrug and say, “Well, yeah...” like everybody knows??

How close are you to the Falls? I think that’s a factor, energetically. It has to be some kind of portal. And it’s well-known that the fae have a high tolerance for hot wings. ;)
So, things I didn’t know until I stopped doomscrolling (and screaming at my screen):

  • Fairies like hot sauce and live in western New York State.
  • There are roving gangs of church people looking to rumble with lesbians after Sunday services. FYI, my money’s on the Daughters of Sappho for the win.
  • I don’t understand why rich assholes, who get loads of plastic work done, don’t critically check out their cutters before going under the knife. Seems even more important than spellchecking your quotes and aphorisms before getting inked.
  • Owls and medieval art—cool!
  • John Lewis—I want him to come back from the dead NOW!
