One More Cup of Coffee

It’s Monday. The Monday after a long gorgeous weekend. I’m ragged out and thinking a Bloody Mary wouldn’t go amiss. OK, maybe just One more cup of coffee 'fore I go. To the valley below. Yes, the great Mistah Dylan is now, happily, in my head.

Given my extra special, early morning knackeredness, you’d think I’d give the news a pass. That’d be the smart thing, no?

Never let it be said that I take the easy road when a perfectly nasty boulevard presents.

Man Admits To Plotting To Massacre Muslims, Judge Sets Him Free Anyway
“We’re gonna be carrying an M4 with 500 rounds of ammunition, light armor piercing. A pistol with three extra magazines, and a machete. And if it gets down to the machete, we will cut them to shreds,” Doggart allegedly said according to the transcript of a wiretap cited in the complaint.

From the Southern Poverty Law Center
Currently, there are 784 known hate groups operating across the country, including neo-Nazis, Klansmen, white nationalists, neo-Confederates, racist skinheads, black separatists, border vigilantes and others.

Check out Terror From the Right: Plots, Conspiracies and Racist Rampages Since Oklahoma City for a detailed listing of major terrorist plots and racist rampages that have emerged from the American radical right in the years since Oklahoma City. The list ends with Larry Steve McQuilliams’ Austin, Texas attacks on November 28, 2014. Needs to be updated.

Oh but DO tell me again how it’s those awful Muslims who are the REAL terrorists.

Greece seems to be and have been in all the papers lately. Apparently some huge monetary thing's going down. I should really pay attention, read up on this. Mary Ann absolutely loved Greece. We could’ve had a rousing convo about this. Christ I miss her. I suppose I always will.

And up in way Northern Maine:

22-year-old Devon Staples of Calais was killed after placing a fireworks mortar tube atop his head and setting it off with explosives inside the tube around 10 p.m.

Fireworks—they bring out the stone dimwit in so many.

And finally, after skipping over so much unstomachable nonsense this morning, some good news:

Obama Plans Broader Use of Clemency to Free Nonviolent Drug Offenders
Sometime in the next few weeks, aides expect President Obama to issue orders freeing dozens of federal prisoners locked up on nonviolent drug offenses. With the stroke of his pen, he will probably commute more sentences at one time than any president has in nearly half a century.

The expansive use of his clemency power is part of a broader effort by Mr. Obama to correct what he sees as the excesses of the past, when politicians eager to be tough on crime threw away the key even for minor criminals.

YES! The insanity of mandatory minimum sentencing for NONviolent drug offenses has to end. Prison is not the solution and for-profit prisons are an abomination.

Hmmm, maybe I'll go sit on the seawall for a bit—ya know, clear and calm my head.
