As this Bloomberg column, This Isn’t the Flattened Curve We Were Promised (and accompanying charts) show, the Trump Plague doesn’t recede anywhere near as fast as it comes on.
"Those are not symmetric curves. They go up fast, flatten out and then descend slowly. How slowly? It’s still hard to tell, but the shape strongly suggests that the bad news won’t go away nearly as quickly as it arrived."
The whole idea of stay-at-home is to slow the spread so hospitals don’t become more overwhelmed and unable to treat/care for us all. The, doubtless way different, new normal won't be here as fast as I want. I'm not thrilled BUT I totes get it.
It’s, now, unlikely that Jen and I will be able to do our annual early winter, long weekend in Iceland's Nirvana. With the spectacular idiocy of this horror-show, lunatic administration, will Iceland (or any other country) even allow visits from Americans?
After Wednesday’s rabidly inane, shoot-your-stupid-self-in-the-ass Michigan protest (funded in part by the filthy rich, mega imbecilic education secretary, Betsy DeVos and family) I sure as fuck wouldn’t let us over the border.
There's no cure for entitlement rocking, utterly irrational, crazy-head stupidity. I imagine the Orange Menace and his Cult45 will die as dimwittedly as they've lived.
What will I do when it's finally safe to go out again? In no particular order, I will:
- Go to Froggy’s with a whole, big pack ‘o’ pals, drink too many of Wendy’s tremendous, creative concoctions, eat too much food that’s, probably, bad for me (Kung Pao Cauliflower – MMMMMMMMM!) and get silly.
- Hit Fusion Kitchen with Hillel and order half the menu.
- Take Ten on a New England tour. We’ll hit Portland, Maine – independent bookstore heaven and visit my cousin Gary in Boothbay Harbor. We’ll cross New Hampshire, driving through the White Mountains. Then over to upstate Vermont. We’ll visit the Shelburne Museum, check in with Cindy and Giovanni on their paradisiacal mid-state farm and stay a night at the Latchis in art riddled Brattleboro.
- Spend the better part of a day at the Y – swimming, ellipticalling and taking full advantage of the weight and stretching machines.
- I’m gonna hit the Thomas Crane and hit it hard. I’ll browse the stacks, take in the current art on display and park my ass in a comfy chair to read.
- Maybe we’ll take a drive down the Cape, have a hike through the dunes between Truro and P-town, stop in at the magical lavender farm and the Cape Cod Art Center’s gallery in Barnstable.
- Also in the cards, a museum day in town – the MFA followed by the MIT Museum and a late lunch at Mary Chungs.
IF we’re still in shutdown mode by July. Jen, Oni, Ten and I will, at least, still be able to sit on our porch – reading, enjoying the view, waving hello to neighbors.
We’re gonna be OK, we'll get to the other side. Just gotta be patient – not one of my highly developed skills.
