Questions

I’m so old that I remember when people cruised the personal ads in The Phoenix and The Real Paper for hook ups, dates and lurv. I remember when speed dating was a big thing. I guess that’s actually still a thing.

Here are some of the questions I found online (along with my answers).

Q: How do your friends describe you in a word?
  A: Weird
Q: What’s the strangest food you’ve tried?
  A: Alligator or blood pudding
Q: What is your fantasy place to visit?
  A: Antarctica or Greenland
Q: Do you prefer indoors or outdoors?
  A: For what?
Q: Which is your favorite country?
A: I haven’t been to all of them but, so far, Scotland comes out on top.
Q: Whiskey or beer?
  A: Whiskey
Q: Who would you want to be stuck with on an island?
A: 'Stuck' implies ‘not there by choice.’ I don’t want to be stuck anywhere.
Q:  If you were an animal, what would it be?
  A: Cat…duh!
Q: What are you hiding now?
A: If I’m hiding something, it’s for a reason so it stays hidden.
Q: Have you ever had a bad habit?
A: A: None of your business
B: what a stupid question. We’re human, we ALL have bad habits. Also, who's judging 'bad' versus 'good?'

Questions that would tell me much more?

Q: What’s your favorite color?
A: Why would this tell me anything? If the speed dater answers blue, they’re not really saying much of anything. The color of the sky on a clear, sunny day? Lapis lazuli? The ocean on a cloudy day? If your answer is red, do you mean wine, blood or ruby red? Maybe something else?

It’s not so much the color but if and how they qualify that hue.
Q: . Favorite movie?
A: If you answer Betty Blue, Eraserhead or Blue Velvet, I’m gonna be intrigued but NOT in a let’s get nekkid together kind of a way.
Q: Do you vote in every election and, if so, how?
A: *PING* This is the big one and should be asked first (if you’re looking for more than just a, possibly fun, one off date). If the person says no, they don’t vote—I'd move on immediately. If they vote but it’s for Team Fascist—same.
Q:  Favorite monster
A: Godzilla and Mothra of fucking course! What’s yours?
Q: Favorite book
  A: Depends on the day.
Q: Best live show
A: My answer will ALWAYS be Concussion Ensemble. Yours?
Q:  Favorite shoes
  A: My silver Vans.
Q:  Who do I want to be when I grow up
A:  //shrugs// Kali, goddess of death, time and change.
Q:  Dead person I’d like to go out for a drink with
A:  Today, my answer is Dan Salzmann.
Q:  If I could come back again, mold my life, what would it be like.
A:  I’d be an anthropologist or a geologist.

I didn't find either of my loves, TAB and Ten, via matchmaking sites or games. Nope, both were organic and spontaneous. I'm not saying that's better—it's just that I wasn't on the hunt. They both took me by surprise. How did you meet your significant other?
