Jen, tired of hearing me whine about being out of new books gave me an early Xmas prezzie. A Kindle.
Now, I’ve had reservations about these devices for some time. I like books—the smell of the paper, the feel of holding a book.
Honestly, I’ve just been resistant to change. This particular change could save some trees and help save the environment. PLUS, while I donate most of my already read books to the local library, it takes me awhile to get around to it. More so now that I’m limited in what I can accomplish on my own.
A shit-ton of novels that I'll never read again, laying about this small house don't do anything besides make me look like a supreme hoarder—an anti-Marie Kondo. So then, the Kindle is both planet and wee cottage friendly. How ‘bout that!
Jen set the new beast up and connected me to the Boston Public Library. (yes, I’ve reached the age where I need the kids to set up electronica for me.) Now I can browse the stacks without the risk of catching the Republican Disease (AKA COVID) or facing Boston traffic.
Another cool bit, the cover is a section from Van Gogh’s Almond Blossoms—a painting I totally love.
What was my first download? A Sandman Slim dark fantasy thriller. This is a series which I seem to be reading out of order. He died? Twice? He went to both Heaven AND Hell? Huh. Good thing I have a library card and can, now, read and reread them in order at zero cost.
